Seminario Luca Panizzi - Searching for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider and future colliders - a phenomenological perspective

17 January 2024,16:30- Physical Seminar Series Announcement!

The Standard Model of particle physics describes with remarkable accuracy almost all properties and interactions of the fundamental particles we observe. Nevertheless, it cannot explain multiple key observations such as the masses of neutrinos, the fundamental nature of dark matter and dark energy, or the fact that we are all made of matter and not antimatter, and its construction still leaves quite a few open questions. A large number of theoretical models have been developed to extend our current description, predicting the existence of new particles or tiny deviations from current measurements, but after the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, no new observations have been made at the LHC. In this talk I will discuss phenomenological approaches for the quest for new physics at colliders, not
based on specific theories, but trying to describe common properties of different models. These approaches allow to reinterpret experimental data to test large classes of theoretical models at once, but also describe new phenomena which have not been explored so far.

Venue: Seminar Room, Department of Physics, Building 31 C, 4th Floor.
