Seminario Biagio Audia - Light-Responsive Smart Materials
24 January 2024,16:30- Physical Seminar Series Announcement!
Among the large family of smart materials, i.e., materials able to
experience significant and controllable transformations of their properties
in response to an external stimulus, light-responsive materials have
attracted enormous attention both from the side of basic research and
potential applications. The interest toward these types of intelligent
systems lies in the intrinsic advantage provided by light as external
control. After an introductive and general overview, the attention will be
moved to a specific class of light-responsive materials, that is the
azobenzene-based systems. The efficient and reversible photo-isomerization
that takes place in these materials under (UV/Vis) light irradiation
invokes a molecular reorientation that triggers, at a macroscopic scale,
unique optical-mechanical effects that provide the basis for a wide variety
of applications.
Venue: Seminar Room, Department of Physics, Building 31 C, 4th Floor.
